How a Chiropractor Can Help with Back Pain

Crofton MD Chiropractor.

There are different types of back pain including acute, chronic, and neuropathic. For some, back pain is a mere annoyance, but for others it can be debilitating and can interfere with daily activities. No matter what kind of pain you have in your back, or how severe it is, know that you don't have to continue living with it. If you are tired of feeling pain, it's time to see our Crofton chiropractor, Shaun R. McClenny, DC CCSP.

Understanding the Three Types of Back Pain

Back pain is generally broken down into three different types:

  • Acute - this type of pain either lasts less than 3 to 6 months or it is related to tissue damage. The longer the pain continues, the more likely it will cause other problems like turning into chronic pain. Acute pain is the body's way of telling you something is wrong which is why it is important to get it checked out by a chiropractor right away.
  • Chronic - this type of pain usually lasts longer than 3 to 6 months and sometimes includes certain conditions of the spine such as degenerative disc disease or spinal stenosis. Sometimes there is no known reason for chronic pain but it usually involves a misfire of the nervous system.
  • Neuropathic - this type of pain is also called nerve pain and can be felt as it travels along the nerve path from the spine to the extremities. This type of pain is often described as stabbing, burning, or ongoing numbness or tingling.

No matter which type of pain you are having in your back, our chiropractor at Capitol Rehab of Crofton will be able to help find the cause of the pain and also help to treat and relieve your pain.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help with Back Pain

One of the most common methods for treating back pain is through spinal adjustments or manipulation of the spine. Using this method, a chiropractor is able to bring proper alignment to the musculoskeletal structure. Chiropractors also remove subluxations from the spine or vertebrae.

When subluxations are remedied and the spine is in proper alignment, the nervous system gets freed of interference. The body is then able to heal itself without the need for prescription drugs or surgery.

Depending on the type of back pain and its cause, Dr. Shaun R. McClenny, DC CCSP might also utilize some of the following treatment methods:

  • Spinal decompression
  • Physical therapy
  • Massage therapy
  • Acupuncture

Our chiropractor also offers nutritional counseling, corrective exercises, and lifestyle advice that will help get you on the road to optimal health once your back pain has been relieved.
