Chiropractic Care

Neck Pain

The vertebrae, muscles and connective tissues of the neck are vulnerable to many kinds of painful problems. An auto accident or sports injury, for instance, may leave you with the severe pain, stiffness and neurological symptoms of whiplash. Neck injuries can also be chronic and slow-growing in nature, as in the inflammation produced by long periods of overuse or repetitive motion at work or play. Even your everyday lifestyle can hurt your neck, as witnessed by the many smartphone users who suffer from "text neck." Our sports chiropractor, physical therapist and other team members can diagnose the root cause of your neck pain and prescribe the right combination of treatments to help you recover.

Back Pain

Back pain is an agonizing, frequently disabling condition that may be brought about by degenerative conditions, a forceful impact to the spinal column, or chronic muscle strain related to spinal misalignment or poor posture. Lower back pain may be either acute, as in the case of pregnancy or a torn muscle, or it can be chronic, as seen in cases of spinal stenosis or spondylolisthesis. We can create a holistic back pain treatment program for you including multiple healing modalities, from chiropractic adjustment to soft tissue therapies.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain may be caused by dislocation of the joint, injuries such as rotator cuff tears, long periods of immobilization (which can cause the stiffness known as frozen shoulder), bursitis or tendinitis. It can even stem from referred pain from a neck spasm or spinal nerve impingement. We can make adjustments to the shoulder joint, address referred pain sources, and relieve soft tissue pain with acupuncture and massage therapy. Corrective exercises from our physical therapist can help you rehabilitate an injured shoulder, restoring its flexibility.

Herniated or Bulging Discs

Both bulging and herniated discs pose a threat to your comfort, health and function. Bulging discs are an age-related phenomenon in which lack of water content permits the discs to lose height and spread out, altering your intervertebral spacing and possibly pinching nearby nerves. A herniated disc is one whose outer casing has ruptured, allowing the inner material to poke out and inflame nerve tissue; it may occur on its own, or as the result of a sports, workplace or auto accident. Our sports chiropractor uses a state-of-the-art spinal decompression therapy table, creating a vacuum-pressure effect that pulls herniated or bulging discs back into their natural configuration.

Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative disc disease is not so much as a disease as a category applied to various degenerative conditions, including natural consequences of the aging process such as flattening of the vertebral discs, spinal stenosis (reduction of space within the spinal canal), spondylolisthesis (abnormal vertebral shifts) and spinal arthritis. Our neck and back pain treatment methods typically include chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression and other methods that help manage these causes of chronic pain.

Sciatica

Sciatica is a series of symptoms related to impingement of the nerve roots that connect the body's largest nerve, the sciatic nerve, directly to the spinal cord. If a herniated disc or other displaced spinal structure presses against these nerve roots, you may experience tingling, numbness, weakness and/or pain in your leg, along with low back pain. We can relieve this chronic problem through chiropractic adjustments and spinal decompression, gently shifting the pressure away from the nerve tissue so your body can communicate with itself normally again.

Obesity

Excess weight not only jeopardizes your systemic health, making you prone to diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and other ailments -- it also places extra stress on your weight-bearing joints, encouraging premature wear and tear that can lead to osteoarthritis.  Our Crofton chiropractor offers both basic nutrition counseling and an in-depth Personalized Weight Loss Program to help you win your "battle of the bulge."

Headaches and Migraines

Headaches and migraines can destroy your productivity and quality of life. Tension headaches are set off by muscle tension in the neck, especially if those spasms pull on cranial membranes such as the dura mater. Migraines can also be triggered by physical stress, as well as foods, flashing lights, weather changes, hormonal issues and a host of other cues. Fortunately, chiropractic care can treat both conditions. Cervical spinal adjustments and massage therapy can normalize your neck alignment and relieve the chronic muscle spasms that cause tension headaches. Chiropractic adjustment can also reduce both the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks, while our nutritional and lifestyle advice can help you identify and avoid your personal triggers.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a form of joint pain that may have any of up to 100 different possible causes. The most common forms of this disorder include osteoarthritis (inflammation related to damaged cartilage in the joints) and rheumatoid arthritis (inflammatory joint pain and swelling related to underlying auto-immune diseases). Our Crofton chiropractor can prescribe chiropractic adjustment, physical therapy, and massage therapy to relieve pain and improve function in osteoarthritis cases. Rheumatoid arthritis sufferers can obtain relief through massage therapy, acupuncture and other healing modalities.
